It was only after I settled down, got married and started a family that I realised how damaging my old party lifestyle was to my health and self-esteem. I had been using alcohol to fake confidence and I had wasted so many valuable days of my life nursing a debilitating hangover. Once I had children, the nights out stopped and I threw myself entirely into caring for my family. It was exhausting, but most definitely a positive turning point in my life.
I signed up to the local leisure centre and leave the kids with my husband so I could go for a quiet swim every now and then. I slowly began to invest time in me again, started attending group fitness classes and aerial lessons because they looked fun.
Small changes to my lifestyle over time dramatically improved my health and I noticed the excess weight disappearing and my athletic body emerging again. I was experiencing better sleep, less mood swings and generally felt really good about myself again. Exercise was making me look and feel good again, and best of all, I was enjoying it! What started off as a way to find quiet time quickly became my passion!
