About Me

About Me

The story so far

I was always physically active as a child. I loved sport at school and enjoyed playing outside with my friends. Running was my favourite activity because I was good at it and would get chosen to represent my school at competitions.

I moved away from home at the tender age of 18 for university and I became more interested in socialising than keeping fit. During this time, my fitness levels dropped and I put on more weight than I was comfortable with. But I was having fun and thought I was happy. Looking back at that time of my life I realise I was not in a good place or comfortable at all with my appearance. But there was always a party to go to and I could not say no, and this destructive lifestyle continued on.

It was only after I settled down, got married and started a family that I realised how damaging my old party lifestyle was to my health and self-esteem. I had been using alcohol to fake confidence and I had wasted so many valuable days of my life nursing a debilitating hangover. Once I had children, the nights out stopped and I threw myself entirely into caring for my family. It was exhausting, but most definitely a positive turning point in my life.

I signed up to the local leisure centre and leave the kids with my husband so I could go for a quiet swim every now and then. I slowly began to invest time in me again, started attending group fitness classes and aerial lessons because they looked fun.

Small changes to my lifestyle over time dramatically improved my health and I noticed the excess weight disappearing and my athletic body emerging again. I was experiencing better sleep, less mood swings and generally felt really good about myself again. Exercise was making me look and feel good again, and best of all, I was enjoying it! What started off as a way to find quiet time quickly became my passion!

I started reading more about health and anatomy, and took a short course with the Open University which turned into an HND in sport and fitness. From there, I got my L2 Exercise to Music certification and started taking group fitness classes and have continued to add to my qualifications ever since. And I don’t plan to stop, I want to keep learning and improving my knowledge to feed this passion and fascination I have about our wonderful human body and what it can achieve.

Now I am determined to help others who find themselves in a similar situation to where I have been, and who may think there is no turning back. I want to help them realise that the physiological and psychological benefits of physical activity can be enjoyed at any age….and that it is never too late to make those changes and improvements. And as an additional bonus, show it is possible to have fun whilst watching these changes develop into a sustainable and fulfilling lifestyle!
